october harvest

I feel as if I need to make the most of anything that’s plentiful in the garden at the moment. There are still lots of runner beans, courgettes, salad and potatoes and the Autumn raspberries are doing us proud daily. And although I definitely need to find time to ruthlessly tidy up some of the decidedly dead looking flowers, I find myself coming across a vibrant patch of orange and yellow nasturtiums, sunny calendula, two-tone purple and green beetroot leaves and pink cosmos that’s very uplifting.

But I have a feeling that as our nights get cooler, time is running out for the pretty and tasty abundance outside.

So when my friend Chava Eichner called round and the sun came out, it was great to gather mint for tea, while it’s still so fresh and there are huge bunches to be picked. We had some of my oatcakes with damson jam and then I offered Chava some of the surplus runner beans so we had another excuse to wander around the garden. As Chava is a great photographer and had her camera with her, she took some lovely photos as we pottered. So pleased that, as everything fades, I’ve got some beautiful pictures of when my garden was lush. Well. maybe wild.

Here are some of the pictures. Thank you Chava!

Chava is also brilliant at taking photos of children, she’s so good at capturing their personalities and her images have a great, relaxed style. Contact Chava Eichner at
